"Aboriginal lucky dolls", brought to the public's attention through a Facebook post Wednesday, were being sold at a Brisbane Airport vendor until authorities swiftly responded to social media outrage Friday.
The dolls highlight the ongoing difficulties with inauthentic Aboriginal souvenirs being sold to tourists.
The original post, which has been shared over 200 times, prompted dismayed comments and calls for the dolls to be removed.
Some posts highlighted the cultural insensitivity of the dolls, while others questioned the drive behind the souvenirs and their origin.
The image then caught the attention of Indigenous X founder Luke Pearson, who tweeted his concern.

The Brisbane Airport Twitter account responded promptly, and while the airport says it has no authority to veto the goods sold by retailers there, the vendor complied with an airport staff's request to remove them.
NITV contacted three souvenir retailers at the international airport for comment but all denied selling this product.
The airport did not provide NITV with the vendor's contact but gave it NITV's details. The vendor had not contacted NITV at the time of publication.
