Australia's largest food relief charity, Foodbank has teamed up with Cadbury to help welfare agencies across the state put a smile on children's faces.

"It's wonderful for Cadbury who have donated 1.1 million Easter eggs this year; this is their third year of donation. We just want to make sure the kids get a special treat," said NSW Foodbank CEO, Gerry Anderson

Foodbank is currently working with 556 charities throughout New South Wales.

"There's 2.2 million Australians getting some help during the year from Foodbank and that works out to about 13.2 per cent of the total population," said Mr Anderson.

The National Centre of Indigenous Excellence has partnered with Foodbank to host a special egg hunt and help the Redfern community celebrate this Easter.

"It's really an opportunity to all come together and celebrate and for those families who perhaps Easter is a difficult time it just takes away that stress or that worry about Easter, you know the kids can have a really fun day with heaps of chocolate, with cousins and their community members and that's what the whole days about," said Program Manager for the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence, April Long.

Ms Long says the egg hunt will alleviated the pressure placed on families to participate in commercialised Easter festivities this weekend.

"It's really about saying as a community ‘it's not something to be ashamed about’ but it's a time to celebrate together and we're just providing that opportunity," she said.
