Natalie Ahmat: An Indigenous-owned energy company has announced new technology which has the potential to replace traditional forms of energy systems, and could eventually power remote communities.

The Brisbane-based AllGrid Energy is implementing an Indigenous approach to their operations.

That includes shifting away from high-emissions fossil-fuel derived energy.

Queensland correspondent Jodan Perry has more.

Jodan Perry: Renewable Energy is the focus of Brisbane based company All Grid Energy, and their products are something they can be very excited about, as they have the potential to be game changers.

Dean Stehling, Allgrid Energy director: Wattgrid 10 is a battery storage system that takes your unused power from your PV on your roof, stores it for when it's most required in the afternoons and evenings.

We also have another product called portagrid, it's where we are looking to support Indigenous groups in remote areas. It's also where we're working with quite a few different government and private groups to look at where we can introduce the portagrid system.

The AllGrid company is an alliance between two established firms, Consolidated Industrial Holdings, which operates across the energy efficiency, engineering design and technology sectors, and DICE Australia, an Aboriginal-owned and Aboriginal-operated company in the electrical contracting and general construction services sector, with Indigenous values central to their mission

Ray Pratt, Allgrid Energy CEO: The fact that our people are one of the oldest living cultures in existence, we've been living sustainably with the environment for thousands of years, and to bring that understanding together with modern technology, and to give ourselves independence from fossil fuels is going to be amazing.
We've been living sustainable with the environment for thousands of years, and to bring that understanding together with modern technology...is going to be amazing
AllGrid energy is an Indigenous-owned company and certified member of supply nation, with the business committed to providing for Aboriginal people

Ray Pratt: To be able to take Wattgrid and a couple of its bigger brothers and bigger systems that wattgrid 10.. so wattgrid 10 is our 10 kilowatt battery storage system and like I said it does have some bigger brothers that are going to be able to power more homes at one time, and yeah the aim is to take it into Indigenous communities.
The aim is to take it into Indigenous communities
The products were launched in Adelaide last week, and the company is also hoping other state governments and councils will be encouraged to take up the idea of supporting the uptake of renewable energy storage.
AllGrid will also invest a percentage of all company profits into creating and supporting training and employment programs for young Indigenous people.
