For the remainder of the week, the 14 players selected from the Koori and Murri carnivals will become temporary members of the Canterbury, Penrith, Parramatta, St. George-Illawarra, Manly, Cronulla and South Sydney rugby league clubs.

First Nations Goannas Coach Laurie Daley says the opportunity is invaluable.

“A lot of the guys have never given up on the dream of playing in the NRL," said Mr Daley. "So they get a chance to go and see where they’re at, but more importantly get a chance to play in a game next week against Newcastle and show they’re wears, and who knows what may come from that."

First Nations Goannas player, Bobby Nona from Rockhampton, agrees that this week is the opportunity-of-a-lifetime.

"[I want to] find out a few things from them and find out what their habits are and what I can take back to my people back up in the Torres Strait,” said Mr Nona.

Cronulla Sharks legend, David Peachey is one of four former league stars who will be participating in the First Nations game as both a player and team mentor.

"This gives me a real opportunity to come back and pass my knowledge on,” said Mr Peachey.

The Goannas will play the Knights in Newcastle on February 8.
