Health advocate Donisha Duff has been unveiled as Labor's new candidate for the Queensland seat of Bowman, the electorate currently occupied by disgraced MP Andrew Laming.

Speaking alongside Labor leader Anthony Albanese outside Mr Laming's office in the Brisbane suburb of Cleveland, Ms Duff says it's a "privilege" to be put forward by the party, and she's hoping to see a fresh start for the region.

"We all know that the community has been neglected over the last 17 years with this current representative. It's the fault of the LNP in their inability to respond to it," she said.

"We need better representation, I'm standing up to advocate for my community."

Ms Duff, the Chief Operations Officer for Brisbane's Institute of Urban Indigenous Health, says her family have lived in the area for three decades.

Liberal National Mr Laming has held the seat since the 2004 Federal election. He has been deselected by his own party for the next election following allegations of harassment and internet trolling.

He is currently on medical leave and has been ordered by Prime Minister Scott Morrison to undergo empathy training.

“This is a creep," said Mr Albanese on Friday.

“Trolling his own constituents on Facebook, hiding behind bushes and jumping out and taking photos of people.

“What you don’t need is a local MP who needs empathy training.

“Donisha Duff has empathy.”
