We celebrate the life, legend and legacy of Eddie Koiki Mabo (June 1936 – 21 January 1992).

He was a Torres Strait Islander man who is known for his role in a landmark decision of the High Court of Australia that overturned the legal doctrine of terra nullius ('land belonging to nothing, no one') which characterised Australian law with regards to land and title.

To begin honouring the contributions that Eddie Mabo has made for this country NITV have Five Shows dedicated to celebrating Eddie Mabo and also Torres Strait Islander culture and arts.

This week marks the Anniversary of the High Court of Australia's decision to recognise Native Title. And here on Mabo Day in Townsville - many of the local community have gathered to remember the man who led the legal challenge for land rights - Eddie Mabo.
