Former head of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission Geoff Clark has been charged with historic fraud offences.

Geoffrey Wayne Clark and his wife Trudy Ann Clark along with two other family members are listed to appear at Warrnambool Magistrates Court in October.

"Fraud and Extortion Squad detectives have charged four people as part of an investigation into alleged historical criminal matters," Victoria Police police said in a statement on Thursday.

"An 66-year-old Warrnambool man, 45 year-old Abbotsford man, 37 year-old Northcote man and a 63 year-old Warrnambool woman have all been charged on summons with fraud related charges."

Mr Clark labelled the charges a "resurrection of the attack on my family", according to The Age.

"We will vigorously defend these matters," he said.
