It won't be long until Australians find out what Labor's razor gang now has in its sights, Assistant Treasurer David Bradbury says.

But he refused to speculate on specific measures mentioned in media reports.

The school kids bonus, family tax benefits and superannuation concessions were mentioned by News Corp Australia newspapers on Thursday as being potential areas to save money.

The government says it wants to find savings to offset its policy to resettle asylum seekers in Papua New Guinea as well as make up for continued revenue falls.

Mr Bradbury says he never speculates publicly on the government expenditure review committee's discussions but a "range of options" are being looked at.

"This is a process we're working through ... carefully and methodically," he told ABC radio on Thursday.

"It won't be very long before people get to have a good look at what it is that ends up being the product of those deliberations."

Shadow treasurer Joe Hockey said it would be hypocritical of the government to scrap the $1 billion school kids bonus after calling it a very important measure just days ago.
