Yesterday the world received news that a man who justified saying that he can do anything he wants to women such as grabbing them on the genitals without consent as "locker room talk", will be the next leader of the United States. People across the globe woke up this morning and it turns out, it wasn't a bad dream.

America was red and it's real. The results of the U.S election are in and the most powerful and influential country on the planet is going to be run by a climate change denier, a wall-building anti-Muslim rich white guy who said that activists of the #blacklivesmatter campaign are 'troublemakers'. 

As Australians, we've experienced conservatism so far right we thought that 'left' only existed when talking about hand-dominance. Decision makers in our Parliament who have denied the stolen generations, said that the colour of a person's skin doesn't disadvantage them, claimed that there was nothing but bush before the British invaded, and the ongoing disregard to create constitutional recognition, form a treaty or give land rights to their nation's First Peoples, but somehow this still managed to shock us. It probably has something to do with the fact that for the last thirteen years, instead of working in politics, he's been hosting a reality television program, but when he's been publicly racist, sexist, homophobic and his policies are likely to reflect these attitudes, it could be a number of things...
