The casting of Noma Dumezweni as Hermione in West End's upcoming production of Harry Potter is exactly what we need in Australia.
Noma is an English actor who was born in Swaziland to South African parents.
Her family moved to England when she was a child, first to Suffolk then to London.
The world premiere of the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is set to open in London's West End in the summer of July 2016 at the Palace Theatre.
It is based on the eighth novel in the Harry Potter series.
Some users of social media have been criticising the casting decision.
But many reactions on social media have embraced the move.

During her Logies acceptance speech she proposed that Australia cast "more beautiful people of colour" in our homegrown stories.
"Put more beautiful people of colour on TV and connect viewers in ways that transcend race and unite us," she said during her acceptance speech for “Most Popular New Talent” at Australian television’s night of nights.
