Hodges happy to keep climbing coaching ranks

He did it all in a glittering playing career and Justin Hodges wants to do the same in the coaching arena, but he's happy to bide his time.

With current assistant coach Stephen Kearney being unveiled as the New Zealand Warriors coach for the 2017 season, a vacancy now exists on the Brisbane Broncos coaching staff.

But despite having a glittering player career and being a former captain of the club, League Nation Live member Justin Hodges says he won’t put his hand up for the role.

Hodges has moved into the coaching game since his retirement, managing a side in the Queensland University competition with another former representative star, Jharal Yow Yeh.

But despite his desire to one day hold the Broncos senior job, Hodges told NITV’s League Nation Live he is content to climb the ladder and complete his apprenticeship.

“I think it’s a bit too early to coach the (NRL) guys, I played with them,” said Hodges.

“Me trying to tell them to do something that I wouldn’t have done is a little bit hard. Imagine trying to get them to do fitness at pre-season.

“I wouldn’t mind starting in the Under 20’s and working my way up to the NRL job one day”.
