The talented forward made his AFL debut for the Suns in Round 1 of the 2015 season after playing for South Fremantle in the West Australian Football League. In just his third game he was nominated for the 2015 AFL Goal of the Year award after running from the back line to kick a long goal.

Garlett’s decision to extend his future with the Gold Coast Suns comes after the young player turned in one of his best games on Saturday, sticking nine tackles to compliment his 19 disposals.

The former first rounder said he was looking forward to being part of Gold Coast’s bright future.

“I am incredibly grateful and rapt to extend my contract with Gold Coast,” Garlett said. “The playing group have stuck together and each day we’re driving each other to be better.

“Personally, I knew that it would be difficult to move away from family in Perth to play AFL footy, but the club welcomed me in from day one and I have always been surrounded by strong support.

“I couldn’t be happier on the Gold Coast and I’m looking forward to continuing my future here in Queensland.”

The Gold Coast's Recruitment Manager Scott Clayton spoke highly of the exciting youngster.

“We are rapt that Jarrod’s confidence in the club has prompted him to re-sign,” Clayton said.

“He is a promising young player, who hasn’t rested on his laurels; he wants to work hard to get the best out of himself.

Taken with selection 15 pick in the 2014 NAB AFL draft, Garlett has kicked 10 goals in his 15 senior appearances.

The talented forward has line-breaking speed and sharp skills, but it has been his improved defensive work which has seen him take another step forward over the last few weeks of the season.
