Leesa Watego from Iscariot Media in Brisbane has been running the Which Way for Social Media workshops since early October, focussing on the use of Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn.

She's also held courses on how to write blogs, create family histories and how to guard against trolls and racists on the internet.

Ms Watego says she knows of Aboriginal writers who won't create a presence online because of racism that has been previously perpetrated against others, such as the case of Dr Anita Heiss, who had her Aboriginality questioned by conservative blogger Andrew Bolt.

Despite the internet existing as a social sphere, Ms Watego says Aboriginal people need to band together and protect each other online from any harm the internet may cause.

As well as social media, many Aboriginal organisations are now adopting apps for Apple and Android devices.

The National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation recently launched its health app following the Yugambeh Museum's language app launch, and Ms Watego says there are many more Indigenous apps on the way.
