Following NITV News' story on the Frontier War rallies in Canberra, we have received a response from an Australian Federal Police spokesperson.
NITV News sought a response on the treatment of protesters during the rally on ANZAC Day and has received the following from Troy Roberts from the AFP.
Were any arrests made? One man was taken into police custody for Breach of the Peace as he attempted to join the official parade against the wishes of organisers. The man was escorted back to the area where the activists were standing and released from custody.
Did any members sustain injuries? During the minor disturbance, a female ACT Policing officer was struck by an unknown person. The officer did not sustain any serious injuries and continued her duties.
Another member had clothing torn by activists.
Protesters said one member tried to use his Taser; is this true? Yes. All incidents where ACT Policing officers utilise a ‘use-of-force’ option are reviewed in accordance with AFP governance.
Are police still investigating the matter? All incidents where ACT Policing officers utilise a ‘use-of-force’ option are reviewed in accordance with AFP governance. Enquiries are underway in relation to the female officer being struck. We would encourage anyone with information and/or footage to come forward.
NITV also sought a response from the AFP regarding the treatment of our NITV News journalist Myles Morgan.
