Who can apply?

 

Emerging filmmakers with no credits are encouraged to apply. Filmmakers with established credits may only apply if they are mentoring emerging producers or directors.

How much can I apply for?

$10,000 presale: shoot and edit a 15 minutes story to NITV technical requirement.

$12,000 presale: shoot and edit of a 15 minutes story, in language.

When do applications open and close?

Applications open Friday 30 September 2016 and close Friday 14 October 2016.

What type of film can I submit and how long should it be?

Your film should be a single documentary style film. Your film should be no longer than 15 minutes.

Who owns the copyright in the finished program?

Copyright is now owned outright by the producer.

Can I add more finance to my budget?

Yes, but finance must be confirmed or committed before you submit an application. We will not vary our contract once it is signed.

Can I apply if I haven’t delivered my other Our Stories Our Way Everyday program/s?

You need to deliver your previous Our Stories, before you can apply to make another one.

How long will it take to assess my application?

Decisions on applications may take up to 5 – 6 weeks for assessment

Will my application be assessed by an Indigenous person?

Yes; all applications are reviewed by Indigenous assessors.

What clearances do I need?

"Clearances" means written licences or assignments in respect of all material incorporated into the Program, Online Materials and the Delivery Materials. This includes;

(a) any persons appearing, speaking or performing;

(b) any locations used where permission to conduct filming or other production activities is legally required;

(c) any music used, including permission from all relevant composers, publishers and musicians in the case of original commissioned music and recording companies and publishers in the case of pre-recorded music used but subject always and only to rights held by the Australasian Performing Right Association;

(d) any photographs, stock footage, archival material, newspapers, magazines and other printed materials used;

(e) any original material used including permission from any writer and the owners of such material;

(f) any other copyright works not described in paragraphs (a) to (e);

(g) any items of merchandise, logos, characters, products or brand names used (other than incidental

uses);

(h) moral rights waivers and consents will be specified within the agreement should your film be selected;

(i) copyright material contributed by the Key Personnel;

(j) the underlying rights;

(k) any other clearances not listed in this Agreement but otherwise set out in the Licence Agreement; and

(l) Indigenous cultural and intellectual property rights; to enable SBS to exercise the Rights in the Program and Online Materials in accordance with this Agreement.

Can I use commercial music?

Commercial music is any popular music that you hear on the radio, download from iTunes or an artist that is signed with a record label. It is advised that you DO NOT use any commercial music.

Unless you can get music rights clearances, this includes song "covers". We advise that you use production music if you are unable to acquire the correct music rights clearances.

What is a rough cut?

"Rough Cut" means an assembly of the Program which is based on the final Script approved by the NITV Commissioning Editor, which clearly shows the structure and content of the Program but will be the subject of further fine-cutting.
