Parliament set to release closing the gap report

On the first sitting day of Parliament for 2014, the Indigenous Affairs Minister Nigel Scullion has addressed his truancy program that's being carried out around the country.

The Minister said the program was already seeing attendance rates lifted by 13 per cent in remote communities.

But he said there was more to be done in closing the gap on Indigenous disadvantage.

"It's absolutely critical to closing the gap," he said.

"We're having a look at the Closing the Gap report and many of us that are close to it would acknowledge that It should be a bit of a muted celebration tomorrow.

"Sadly, we're not doing anywhere near as good as we should be doing in terms of closing the gap."

The closing the gap report is due for release in Parliament tomorrow.
