Patty Mills and the Boomers have suffered a disappointing semi-final loss to gold medal favourites the United States at the Tokyo Olympics.
The Australian team started fast, leading at both quarter and halftime on the back of a strong defensive game and some silky shooting.
But the Americans went on a scoring surge from the half, ultimately winning by 97-78.
The Boomers will now face off against tonight's second semi-final winner between France or Slovenia for the Bronze medal.
Mills' team had hoped to end a cursed run of more than 50 years without an Olympic victory for the Australian basketball team, whose last gold was won at the 1856 Melbourne Olympics.
Though the loss will no doubt leave the Boomers disappointed, Mills nonetheless had some good news this week that should take the sting out of the loss.
The Muralag and Ynunga man signed a multi-million dollar deal with NBA royalty the Brooklyn Nets, linking up with US captain Kevin Durant, who was the top scorer for the States with 23 points.
