Prime Minister Tony Abbott has begun a week-long trip to remote Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory.

Mr Abbott will operate his government from tents outside the town of Nhulubuy, 600 kilometres east of Darwin.

The trip is the fulfilment of an election promise in 2013 where Mr Abbott vowed to spend one week of every year as Prime Minister in a remote Indigenous community.

NITV reporter Myles Morgan is travelling with the Prime Minister and spoke to Zara Zaher about the intention of the visit.
