The Federal Government is set to reinstate the Racial Discrimination Act in the Northern Territory, which was controversially suspended, as a part of the Howard government's intervention into indigenous communities in 2007.
Indigenous Affairs Minister, Jenny Macklin, says the government will be consulting with communities before introducing legislation in October.
A key discussion point will be how compulsory income management can operate without having to suspend the act.
The government also wants to continue bans on alcohol and pornography, but in the future, communities could get a say in the level of restrictions imposed.
