An Indigenous community farm in the Northern Territory town of Katherine is taking it's commercial tomato growing operation to new heights.

This year, the farm has more than doubled the size of its crop, which in turn has ceated more jobs as it provides fresh produce to more than 10 commercial suppliers across the Top End.

With a passion for the environment, tomato picker Toni Watts thrives working at the Kalano tomato farm.

Row by row she plucks from the vines the fruits of this unique initiative.

The farm is overseen by an Indigenous community association that is focused on providing opportunities to the local people of Katherine.

It’s run as a commercial enterprise and failure is not an option.

The farm produces more than 300 tonnes of produce each year. From the field, the tomatoes embark on an exhaustive inspection process as the harvest is washed, graded, and boxed, ready to send to suppliers.

The farm distributes produce to more than 10 major supermarkets and there are plans for further expansion.
