Bundajlung arts programmer Rhoda Roberts is set to take Indigenous cultures to a global stage with her latest production, The Boomerang Festival.
Ms Roberts had a dream to bring Indigenous artists together on her own Bundjalung country, and that dream is about to come true in just a few weeks.
The Boomerang Festival will be held at the Bluesfestival site at Byron Bay and will feature many of Australia's deadliest artists. There will be special performances from Archie Roach, Gurrumul, and Stephen Pigram.
Theses legendary musicians will perform alongside contemporary artists such as The Medics, Busby Marou and some of our newest Deadly nominated bands including Sue Ray, Oz Island, Murri's Slip on Stereo and the fabulous Merindahs from Nyoongar country.
The music festival promises to be a holistic experience with several events to see, hear, smell and feel over the duration of the event.
Ms Roberts says Indigenous arts and culture is important for our wellbeing and could help our community close the gap.
“There will be lots more discussions post-election on the table at Boomerang as well as films, food, theatre and dance,” says Ms Roberts.
The Boomerang Festival runs over the October Long weekend at the Bluesfest site in Byron Bay.
