The Tree of Life in 'Our Stories Our Way' highlights this week

Our Stories Our Way is the most unique storytelling in Australia. Emerging filmmakers from regional and remote areas of the country share stories of our life, our history, our elders, our communities, our events, our youth and our cultures.

Focusing on our some of our next generation of Indigenous entrepreneurs, their journey and leadership approaches in becoming a successful blackfella in Australia business. Edward Watkin Jr is a leadership strategist who works to build leadership capacity in communities. He works directly on community; with community organisations; and with whole communities building the leadership capacity within the community.

OUR FOOTPRINT: Stories of our country by our Elders

Aunty Beryl is a respected Elder of the Redfern community. She is a great advocate for providing opportunities for young Indigenous people in particular, those who had been long term unemployed and for whom ongoing work or a career seemed impossible. Her own life has been one of transformation since she first came to Redfern in the fifties.  Now in her mid-seventies she’s imparting her knowledge and skills to mentor her students who are often long term unemployed and often with little schooling, into stable work and ultimately careers.

AROUND THE CAMPFIRE: Stories from our Communities

Episode 3, Birubi

PRODUCTION COMPANY: Metro Screen – NSW

Birubi is the traditional name for Stockton Beach, which is a 32km stretch from Stockton to Anna Bay. It has a huge cultural significance for the area. The earliest inhabitants of the beach were the Worimi tribe, the traditional owners of Port Stephens who spoke the Gathang language. Birubi is about the cultural history of Stockton Beach.

UNEARTHED: inspirations from our youth

Episode 3, Cassandra Williams

Music has always been a constant part of Cassandra Williams life. Her natural musical talent, powerful vocals and song writing skills have been showcased well beyond the small Aboriginal community of Ntaria where she grew up. Having completed a music course in Adelaide at the Centre for Aboriginal Studies in Music.
