Three men have been charged following the death of 20-year-old Yorta Yorta man Jesse Edwards on January 19 during a night out in Victoria's Swan Hill.

Mr Edwards had been out with his siblings and some friends when he was allegedly caught up in a brawl in Campbell Street.

He died before the ambulance arrived to take him to a hospital. Until now, no charges had been laid.

On Thursday three men aged 22 to 45 were charged by Victoria Police for offences in relation to the incident, from common law assault, to affray.

Charges have not been laid in relation to Mr Edwards’ death.

His mother Christine Donaczy said she was extremely disappointed with the charges.

“I’m not happy at all," she told NITV News.

"I’m ropeable. My son is just so, so upset and my daughters who were out that night, they’re blaming themselves.”

The family was delivered a 700-page police report on Thursday, which Ms Donaczy said they have so far been unable to read due to the emotional distress they are under.

“I can’t bring myself to read it because it’s too upsetting to me and my family. I can’t let my kids look at it,” she said.

“The family’s not travelling well at all. We can’t get over the grief of what’s happened."

They have been attending grief counselling in the lead up to the inquest into Mr Edwards' death, for which a date has still not been set.

The trio will face the Swan Hill Magistrates Court on October 22.
