Two police officers involved in a violent incident in Western Australia's north may not face disciplinary action, Commissioner Karl O'Callaghan says.
Video has emerged on social media that appears to show a male officer punching what is claimed to be an indigenous woman in the head, while another pins her to the ground in Kununurra in the early hours of December 5.
The local who filmed the incident told AAP the victim had been fighting with another woman when police intervened.
But Mr O'Callaghan said an internal review into the incidents may not result in disciplinary action.
"It doesn't mean to say officers will lose their jobs either - it may mean we may have to do some better training or change some circumstances, who knows, or maybe nothing will come out of this," he told 6PR radio on Thursday.
"If we don't do it, then the Corruption and Crime Commission will do it, so we have to have a look at these things, make sure we have our training right, that the officers have done the right thing."
The mother-in-law of one of the officers said it was "heartbreaking" to see him in the spotlight.
"They could have got back into their cars and gone and let them (the women) fight it out," she told the broadcaster.
"The situation worsened after that - I think they kind of stirred each other up.
"What wasn't said was that these two fellas sustained concussion and one of them had stitches to the head."
The man who videoed the incident on his phone, Isaiah Barney, told AAP he "was absolutely shocked" at what he saw.
"I had to literally re-watch the video to see him hit her, but I had it on camera," Mr Barney said.
"One officer was on her legs and the other officer was on her back and shoulders so hard."
A spokesman for Police Minister Liza Harvey said the state government would not comment until the review was completed.
