It’s been a disappointing weekend for Sydney FC, but take me back to before the match. What were your thoughts going into this grand final as the underdogs?
I was definitely confident going into the match, I think the belief that we could challenge City going into the match was definitely there amongst the playing group. And we definitely believed we had the talent to get on top if we played at our full potential. Obviously looking back on the game now it’s disappointing that we couldn’t execute that as well as planned.
To our credit, I feel like the score line definitely wasn’t reflective of the game. I think in the first half we could have been up one or two goals, and that definitely would have changed the course of the game.
In saying that, City capitalised on half a chance, and they ended up getting the first goal, and when you get the first goal I think that gives the confidence and momentum for the rest of the game.
How was the team feeling after the match?
Yeah, very disappointed. At the end of the day we know that we didn’t execute our chances as well as we could. We got out played out in parts, but by the same token we were dominating in parts as well. We obviously still had that belief that we could have won if we played our best football.
Just a disappointing moment as it was such a great opportunity for us, you know, being a young team, but also City with their undefeated streak, that was our opportunity, in the biggest game of the season to put that to a stop.
Looking ahead, what does 2016 have in store for the team?
It’s definitely promising. With the core group that we’ve got, maybe a couple more recruits in certain areas will definitely put us in good stead for the coming season.
We definitely have potential for the future, if we can get more and more investment from the club as well, more support, I think that sets us up nicely for the future.
You ended Sunday on a bit of a low, but you made one spectator’s day - can you tell me about that?
Yeah I think it was last week in the game against Canberra, I obviously had one more game to play and I couldn’t give my boots away then, so I thought "you know I’m gonna give my boots away to someone after the grand final". And just walking along the fence, and that little girl she says “Hi Kyah, can I have your boots?” And I said, “Yeah sure.”
That’s something so small that I could do, but obviously has a huge impact on a young girl’s life.
