The West Australian government is to spend $75 million to tackle child sexual abuse and domestic violence which it says is tearing apart Aboriginal families.
Premier Geoff Gallup says it's an historic commitment.
And he says he's urging Aboriginal people in WA to match the government with their willingness to stamp out abuse and violence.
Dr Gallup says what he calls the epidemic of sexual and physical abuse towards children and women in Aboriginal communities has been met with silence for too long.
The government's $75 million package is a response to the findings of the Gordon inquiry which the premier commissioned last year.
The inquiry report painted a picture of endemic abuse, saying Aboriginal women are 45 times more likely to be abused than non-indigenous women.
The government will spend $12 million to employ 25 additional child protection workers, 15 in WA regional areas.
It will build nine new multi-functional police stations in remote areas at a cost of $10 million, and spend $8.6 million to assign 21 additional police officers to the Kimberley, Pilbara, Goldfields and Esperance regions.
Eight specialist domestic violence officers will be also employed in regional districts at a cost of $1.8 million.
