Waitangi Day, commemorated each year on the 6th of February, marks a significant date in New Zealands history. Named after the location where the Treaty of Waitangi was signed, the day celebrates the signing of the founding document of New Zealand in 1840.

NITV has been celebrating Waitangi Day all week with special programming exploring Maori stories, culture and impacts of the Treaty. In case you missed out, we have you covered with these On Demand movies.

'The Dead Lands'

'After his tribe is slaughtered through an act of treachery, the teenage son of a slain Maori chieftain looks to avenge his father's murder and bring peace and honour to the souls of his loved ones.'

'The Price of Peace'

'A film about the trial of the 'Urewera Four', Kim Webby's documentary takes us in to the heart and mind of Tūhoe activist, artist and kaumātua Tame Iti. Outlining the perils of surveillance in her account of the trial, in which Iti and three others were accused of plotting terrorist activities after an alleged paramilitary training camp was discovered by police in the Urewera in 2007.'
