The 2019 Sydney Theatre Awards were held on Monday at the Seymour Centre. Three of the 35 awards presented went to some deadly actors that we should all be congratulating.
Meyne Wyatt took out the Best Male Actor in a Leading Role in a Mainstage Production, Shari Sebbens was awarded Best Female Actor in a Supporting Role in a Mainstage Production and Joseph Althouse won Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role in an Independent Production. Wyatt was also nominated for Best New Australian Work for 'City of Gold' and Althouse was also nominated for Best Newcomer.
Wyatt and Sebbens both received their awards for stellar performances in Wyatt's playwriting debut 'City of Gold', which played from June through to August last year. The co-production between Queensland Theatre and Griffin Theatre Company tells the story of Breythe, a young man from Kalgoorlie striving to make his way as an actor in the city but finding himself typecast as ‘the Indigenous actor’.

Althouse recently graduated from NIDA and has since been making strides in his career with performances in Sydney Theatre Company's 'Lord of the Flies', Ensemble Theatre's 'Black Cockatoo' (currently playing) and Apocalypse Theatre Company's 'Angels in America', which Althouse won his award for.
Congratulations to the winners, as well as Bessie Holland who was nominated for Best Female Actor in a Supporting Role in a Mainstage production and Stephanie Somerville who was nominated for Best Newcomer.
