Protestors take to the streets in cities across Australia over WA community closures

Published
Around Australia late today activists held protests against the forced closure of remote communities in Western Australia. In Melbourne, several hundred protestors have streamed through the CBD marching from Flinders Street, before occupying the Swan Street Bridge where they've blocked peak hour traffic. Cars have been forced to stop while police have diverted traffic away from the area. And there was protest action outside Parliament House in Perth. Demonstrators called on opponents to maintain pressure on the State Government to abandon its plan for community closures. It has been two months since the WA Government revealed a detailed timeline for taking over sole responsibility from the Commonwealth to provide essential services to communities.... with the prospect of "significantly fewer" remaining open after the process.
