Postecoglou will name his selections via a teleconference from Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday at 10am, and the Celtic midfielder, who was ruled out of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2015 AFC Asian Cup through injury, has now overcome the long-term groin problems that turned last season into a nightmare.
Celtic coach Ronny Deila said Rogic had earned his opportunity, and he started in two of the Bhoys' first three games of the Scottish Premiership.
Rogic scored on the opening day against Partick Thistle, and though he returned to the bench for the weekend's 4-2 win over Inverness, he has impressed Deila with his zest and creativity, while Postecoglou has also taken note.
The 22 year-old has been limited to just nine caps since his debut in 2012 because of his injury woes, but he could be the X-factor for Australia's clashes with Bangladesh in Perth on 3 September, and away at Tajikistan on 8 September (local time).
Rogic was last seen in a Socceroos shirt in the 4-3 loss to Ecuador in London 16 months ago and has another chance to impress for Celtic in its UEFA Champions League group stage play-off against Malmo on Thursday morning (AEST).
Rogic's vision and ability to ghost past opponents will add an extra dimension for Postecoglou, whose midfield stocks will also be bolstered by the return of fellow young gun Massimo Luongo, who was absent from June’s 2-1 WCQ qualifying win over Kyrgyzstan with a groin injury.
It’s likely that strike weapon Robbie Kruse, who injured his foot in the AFC Asian Cup final and was then felled by a snapped achilles, will also be welcomed back by Postecoglou, to boost his attacking armoury.
Kruse returned to senior action for Bayer Leverkusen in a German Cup game a fortnight ago but was an unused substitute in the 2-1 Bundesliga win over Hoffenheim.
With his club future now settled, Roda JC's Tomi Juric should be among the group of attackers at Postecoglou's disposal.
Meanwhile, there may be disappointment for emerging midfielder Mustafa Amini, who was pushing hard for inclusion after a bright start for his new Danish club, Randers.
Instead, he will be selected for the Olyroos, who have clashes scheduled next month against Turkey and Macedonia.
James Troisi, scorer of Australia’s winner in the AFC Asian Cup final against Korea Republic, appears certain to get the nod for the Socceroos, as he considers his club future amid strong interest from the A-League, Middle East and elsewhere.
Attacker Tommy Oar is another who is also almost certain to be in Postecoglou's squad as his search for a new club continues in the wake of his exit from FC Utrecht.
Stuttgart goalkeeper Mitch Langerak will miss out with a thigh muscle injury, leaving Bournemouth recruit Adam Federici as the likely understudy to first choice goalkeeper Mat Ryan.
Highly-rated defender Trent Sainsbury is recovering from a hamstring problem, but Postecoglou has a handful of options to partner Matthew Spiranovic in defence, with Alex Wilkinson, Preston North End's Bailey Wright and Croatia-based Tomislav Mrcela all fit.
Captain Mile Jedinak is also fully fit but struggling to win back his starting place under Alan Pardew at Crystal Palace.
Jedinak, who came off the bench on the opening day of the Premier League season in the 3-1 win at Norwich City, was omitted again for the 2-1 loss to Arsenal at the weekend, with Pardew sticking with the midfield combination of James McArthur, Yohan Cabaye, and Jason Puncheon.
There are no such issues for attacker Nathan Burns at his new club FC Tokyo, with the former Wellington Phoenix star already scoring twice in four appearances.
While both Queens Park Rangers and Huddersfield have made slow starts to the Championship season, its resident Australians, Luongo and Jason Davidson have hit the ground running, and both played full games at the weekend.
