The crossover between Bollywood and Hollywood has never been greater, with Indian actors taking roles in the west, and Hollywood actors exploring characters from the east. But the latest actor to embrace the Indian film industry is The Mummy star, Brendan Fraser.
Fraser will play 'Charu', an American expat gun runner in The Field, a Hindi and English language mafia thriller by director Rohit Karn Batra. Though Batra has won awards for his short film work in the past, this will be the director's debut feature film.
The Field tells the story of an Indian mafia family whose world goes awry following the death of their patriarch. Fraser's character, who has ties with the Indian underworld, finds himself caught within the family's drama.
Ray Liotta was originally reported to play Charu in the film, but the director told Hollywood Reporter Fraser appeared to be a more fitting choice after reviewing the latest changes made to the script.

“The more the script evolved, the more obvious it became Brendan was the best choice for the idiosyncratic role of Charu. For a director to explore this journey with him in a place like India is nothing less than a once in a lifetime opportunity," said Batra.
Veteran Bollywood villain, Prem Chopra, along with other Bollywood stars, Ronit Roy, Neeraj Kabi, Vineet Singh, and Radhika Apte, will star alongside Fraser in the upcoming thriller.
Filming for The Field commences this Friday in Mumbai and Delhi.
