Rocky road is a marvellously versatile no-bake treat: use milk, dark or white chocolate, and then add whatever mix-ins you fancy. Marshmallows and nuts are traditional favourites in a classic rocky road, but you can endlessly add or substitute. Here are some of our favourite twists (along with some rocky road-inspired bakes).

This recipe from Adrian Richardson includes glacé cherries, marshmallows, Turkish delight, crushed biscuits and pistachios (but save it for the grown-ups: there's a shot of rum in there, used to soak a handful of currants).

Take the much-loved elements of rocky road and combine them with a delicious chocolate cake in this recipe from the Chocolate Queen, Kirsten Tibballs. There are marshmallows, chocolate, salted peanuts and fresh raspberries in the cake, and decorating it, too. (Or for another twist, try these rocky road muffins).

This fantastic recipe sees chopped dates softened in vanilla, coffee and Frangelico, before being incorporated into the white chocolate rocky road, along with sliced white marshmallows, chopped candied orange and slivered almonds. The slice is then drizzled with white and dark chocolate. (The recipe also includes a variation that substitutes brandy-soaked glacé and candied fruits for the dates and shredded coconut for the candied orange).
