'Community organisations inactive to stop Domestic Violence'

Migrant communities do not want to talk about domestic violence, said Akhter Jahan Rahman, who is an Advocate of White Ribbon Australia. Bangladeshi expatriate in South Australia Akhter Jahan, who also a psychologist, has been working for the organization since 2014 and spoke to SBS Bangla.


In Australia with 1 in 3 women experiencing violence by someone they know. 

White Ribbon Night will be hosted nationally from 27-29 July.

"Two Bangladeshi expatriates contacted me for help against domestic violence. But their relatives from Bangladesh forbade them to not to talk about it," said Akhter Jahan.

"The expectation about domestic violence against women is not decreasing, although there is a lot of publicity."

Akhter said I did not see any response from the expatriate Bangladeshi men to stop the violence.
