Scientists of the University of Queensland's Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology have discovered a unique nano-scaled DNA signature that appears to be common to all cancers. One of them is Bangladeshi expatriate Abu Ali Ibn Sina.

Based on this discovery, a simple blood test has been developed that could make it possible to diagnose cancer in just 10 minutes.

The breakthrough could lead to much earlier detection and increase the chance that treatment works because it could be started before traditional symptoms develop.

Each cancer type, whether it be breast or bowel cancer, has different genetic and other features. A test that detects one cancer may not work on another. Researchers have long been looking for a commonality among cancers to develop a diagnostic tool that could apply across all types.
