Argentina has been a World Cup powerhouse but the 2014 runners-up only made it to Russia with a last-ditch qualifying win over Ecuador. The country headlines Group D. It will face stiff opposition from Iceland, Croatia and Nigeria.


Having made it to five finals and won two, Argentina’s World Cup pedigree is rivalled by few countries.

But its build-up to this year’s event has been marked by some unrivalled upheaval.

Coach Jorge Sampaoli is his country’s third coach in less than a year and with only one win in four official matches his record is far from glorious.
