Philippines-Australia Friendship Day is commemorated every 22nd of May, a tradition established under Presidential Proclamation No. 1282 (series of 2016) of the Philippines. This date was chosen to commemorate the establishment of the first Australian Consulate-General in Manila in 1946.
This 2026, the celebration holds deeper meaning as both nations mark the 80th anniversary of their formal diplomatic relations. Both the Philippines and Australia are active in this celebration under the Strategic Partnership Agreement ratified in 2023.
Across different parts of Australia, Filipino communities are also participating in the celebration of this significant milestone through various events.
