125 years of suffrage: What Europe can learn from Australia's democracy

Australia is celebrating 125 years of democratic elections — and continues to rely on special features such as compulsory voting and the preferential voting system. These instruments have helped to reduce political extremes and to strengthen trust in democratic processes. In times of growing polarization, the question is: Could the Australian model also be a role model for Europe?
