The new metro tunnel in Melbourne has opened and was celebrated on the very first day. More than 70,000 passengers used the new connection in the first 24 hours. The nine-kilometre tunnel runs under the CBD, connects the east and west of the city and doubles Melbourne's underground rail network. 15 billion dollars, almost nine years of construction — this is the biggest modernization of the rail network in 40 years. We jumped into the hustle and bustle on Sunday and were among the first passengers.
