In our science series with Catharina Vendl, today we hear an interview she did with her former fellow student Katharina Venz, a small animal vet in Berlin. We find out what can happen in a veterinary practice in Germany's capital, which animals are treated and how, how many pets as opposed to wild animals and also exotic animals turn up in the practice, and also something about what it means for the health of fashionable breeds, such as French Mastiffs, or Labradoodles, for example, to be bred only for their looks.


Catharina Vendl, who conducted this interview, is a veterinarian herself, but she has moved into research. She works at UNSW. We heard about her research on whales last year.
