A planned auction by a Neuss auction house has sparked outrage worldwide. Hundreds of documents from the Nazi era from the collection of a private NS researcher were to be auctioned off — in addition to Jewish stars, anti-Semitic propaganda posters, Gestapo index cards and letters from Holocaust victims and perpetrators. Following massive criticism from institutions, diplomats and politicians, including Poland's foreign minister, the auction house cancelled the auction at short notice. The process once again raises questions about the moral responsibility of dealing with such privately owned objects.
