In the next few weeks, the Goethe Institute in Sydney will offer art, music, films, discussions and a cooking course on Syria. All events are free and in English. The director of the Goethe Institute, Sonja Griegoschewski, tells us about the international cultural exchange that takes place under extreme conditions. The Goethe-Institut Damascus was established in 1955 as one of the first outside of Germany, a second branch in Aleppo was opened in 2011 however both had to be closed in 2012 due to the unsafe situation in Syria.

 

Now, the Goethe Institute Sydney presents a series of events as a pop-up at their premises 90 Ocean Street

Woollahra. Tagged Goethe-Institut Damascus in Exile there will be discussions on artists in exile, international cultural exchange, and voices of artists from Syria, Germany, Australia, and beyond.
