Shortly before the end of the year, a bitter dispute over pensions threatens the cohesion of the governing coalition in Berlin. The Junge Union - within the governing CDU - is opposed to an agreement between the SPD and the CDU on a pension package that Chancellor Merz supports. A decisive vote is scheduled for Friday, but the displeasure has not yet been resolved.
