On the occasion of International Press Freedom Day, recent data highlights a worrying development: For the first time, more than half of all countries worldwide are classified as “difficult” or “very serious” for journalistic work. The causes are primarily armed conflicts, increasing legal restrictions and a harsher social climate. Germany is also recording setbacks in the ranking.
