Despite harsh criticism, the government of US President Donald Trump is accepting a jumbo jet as a gift from the leadership in Qatar. According to reports, the new aircraft is worth more than 600 million Australian dollars. It is the most expensive gift from a foreign partner and raises many legal and ethical issues. Trump himself is unmoved and claims that it is “stupid” to turn down such an offer for a “free, very expensive plane” - after all, it only saves American taxpayers money.
