Leading representatives from around 50 medical groups have gathered in Canberra to discuss some of Australia's most sensitive healthcare issues. As one of the participating organisations, the Australian Medical Association, AMA for short, claims that the performance of the Australian healthcare system continues to decline. This is evident, for example, in rural communities, where access to healthcare remains difficult, but logjams in public hospitals and closures of private hospitals and services are also indicators of this decline.
