Polio was long considered almost eradicated — a triumph of international health campaigns. But a new outbreak in Papua New Guinea is a stark reminder of how fragile such successes are. Vaccine shortages, unstable health systems and a lack of infrastructure are jeopardizing global progress in the fight against the disease.
