Norbert Lammert is President of the German Bundestag in Berlin. From 7-14 October he travelled to Singapore, New Zealand and Australia. We seized the opportunity to invite Professor Lammert to our SBS studio in Melbourne.
In the 15-minute interview, we talked about refugees, the future of the EU, the resurgence of nationalism, his views on Australia's Stop The Boats policy, dual citizenship for Germans in Australia, and whether he's bidding to become Germany's next Federal President in 2017.

And this website by the German Bundestag explains why the President of the German Bundestag is often referred to as "second man in the state".
