Indian cuisine is known for its large assortment of fish curries. It is a staple in most coastal areas where flavours, cooking techniques and local ingredients are as varied as the population. West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and the North Eastern states form the heart of fish delicacies in the country.
Here's an easy to make fish curry recipe by Noni Sachdeva.
Ingredients
- 8-10 pieces of cut promfret
- 1 cup onion finely chopped
- 4 tbsp oil
- ½ cup fresh coconut paste (finely grinded into a paste)
- 1 tbsp chopped garlic
- ½ tbsp ginger garlic paste
- 1 tbsp coriander powder
- 1 tbsp red chilli powder
- 1 tbsp garam masala powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- Salt to taste
- Water
Method
- In a bowl, take fish and sprinkle salt and lemon juice. Mix and keep it aside for 15 min and wash the fish and keep ready to add to the curry.
- In a pan, add oil, onion.
- Cook the onion till they turn translucent.
- Now add garlic, ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder and cook for 2-3 mins.
- Now add coconut, chilli powder, garam masala powder, coriander powder and salt cook this for 5-8 min or till the mixture turns dry.
- Now add water and lemon juice and let it come to a boil.
- Add the fish pieces and mix gently.
- Cook till the fish is cooked.
- Enjoy with rice.
