L'autore della revisione che ha dato il via alle riforme ambientali del governo ha pienamente approvato la legislazione sulla protezione della natura proposta dal Partito Laburista.
Graham Samuel ha dichiarato alla SBS che il disegno di legge attua la “totalità” delle raccomandazioni formulate nella sua relazione, cinque anni dopo la sua presentazione.
I Verdi e la Coalizione si sono opposti al disegno di legge, con la leader dei Verdi Larissa Waters che lo ha descritto come un regalo di 1400 pagine per le grandi imprese.
Ma Samuel afferma che sia i gruppi ambientalisti che gli interessi commerciali hanno dato un contributo sostanziale alla sua relazione e che le loro richieste sono state pienamente prese in considerazione nelle raccomandazioni.
"I say to the Greens and I say to the Coalition without wanting to be political, please please stop your political games and get on with this legislation. Because this is one way for our children - our grandchildren, our great grandchildren, for future generations - to now get effective environmental protection and environmental restoration."

Il Question Time al Senato si è tramutato in caos, con l'accusa rivolta alla Coalizione di voler mettere a tacere le donne.
Il Question Time, della durata di un'ora, si è trasformato in una sessione di tre ore, a seguito di una mozione presentata mercoledì dal senatore indipendente David Pocock.
La mozione, sostenuta sia dalla Coalizione che dai Verdi e dai senatori indipendenti, chiedeva che il Question Time venisse prolungato fino a quando il Partito Laburista non avesse pubblicato un rapporto sulle nomine dei membri dei consigli di amministrazione del settore pubblico, ricevuto nel 2023.
Durante il Question Time prolungato di giovedì, la Coalizione ha cercato di interrompere la senatrice laburista Marielle Smith mentre stava terminando la sua domanda sulla salute delle donne.
La presidente del Senato Sue Lines ha criticato la Coalizione per le sue rumorose interruzioni.
"May I remind you that I'm the president in this chamber, I sat the senator down, because on my left you are absolutely out of order. I repeat - no, Senator Smith, I haven't finished yet - I repeat it once again, I repeat it once again, if you can not listen in silence, leave the chamber. The author of the review that triggered the government's environment reforms has fully endorsed Labor's nature legislation.
Graham Samuel has told SBS the bill implements the 'totality' of the recommendations he made in his report, five years after it was delivered.
The Greens and Coalition have objected to the bill, with Greens leader Larissa Waters describing it as 1400 pages gift-wrapped for big business.
But Mr Samuel says environmental groups and business interests alike had substantial input into his report, and their desires were fully taken into account in the recommendations.
"I say to the Greens and I say to the Coalition without wanting to be political, please please stop your political games and get on with this legislation. Question Time in the senate turned into chaos, with the Coalition being accused of silencing women.
The one-hour Question Time turned into a three-hour session, following a motion by Independent Senator David Pocock on Wednesday.
The motion, backed by both the Coalition, Greens and the crossbench, requested Question time be extended until Labor released a report into government public sector board appointments, which it received in 2023.
During the extended Question Time on Thursday, the Coalition has tried to interject Labor Senator Marielle Smith from finishing her question on women's health.
President of the Senate Sue Lines criticises the Coalition for loud interjection.

King Charles' younger brother Andrew has been stripped of his title of prince and asked to leave his home near Windsor Castle over his ties to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The younger brother of Charles and second son of the late Queen Elizabeth, 65-year-old Andrew has faced mounting pressure over his behaviour and ties to Epstein.
Earlier this month, he was forced to stop using his title of Duke of York - and now he's been stripped of his titles, he will be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.
A statement from Buckingham Palace says Andrew will be forced to surrender his Royal Lodge mansion on Windsor Estate and move to private accommodation.
