Il primo ministro Anthony Albanese ha raggiunto un accordo con i Verdi per rivedere la legge sulla protezione dell'ambiente e la conservazione della biodiversità (E-P-B-C).
Dopo mesi di speculazioni sul fatto che il governo avrebbe raggiunto un accordo con i Verdi o con la Coalizione, la serie di riforme dovrebbe essere approvata oggi dal Senato.
Le modifiche sono volte ad accelerare il processo decisionale per le questioni prioritarie a livello nazionale, come le energie rinnovabili e l'edilizia abitativa, e, allo stesso tempo, ad aumentare le sanzioni per le violazioni e ad eliminare le controverse esenzioni per il disboscamento ad alto impatto ambientale e gli accordi forestali regionali.

Una donna è morta dopo essere stata attaccata da uno squalo in una spiaggia isolata sulla costa centro-settentrionale del New South Wales.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has secured a deal with the Greens to overhaul the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation, or E-P-B-C, Act.
After months of speculation regarding whether the government would strike a deal with the Greens or the Coalition, the suite of reforms is expected to pass through the Senate today.
The amendments are designed to speed up decision-making for national priorities such as renewable energy and housing, and simultaneously, increase penalties for breaches and removing controversial exemptions for high-risk land clearing and regional forest agreements.
Mr Albanese says the reforms have been a long time coming.

A woman is dead after a shark attack at a remote beach on the New South Wales mid-north coast.
Police say that fellow beachgoers unsuccessfully tried to help her before emergency services arrived at the beach in the Crowdy Bay National Park, about an hour south of Port Maquarie, early this morning.
A man has survived being bitten and is in hospital in a critical condition.
Both were aged in their 20s but are yet to be identified.

Three people have been arrested over a massive blaze at several blazing high-rise apartment blocks in Hong Kong's Tai Po district, the city's deadliest fire in years.
The blaze has burned through the night, leaving at least 44 people dead and hundreds unaccounted for.
Some residents are sheltering in a nearby community centre, many frantic about the whereabouts and wellbeing of family and friends.
Lawrence Lee was at work when the fire broke out and has lost contact with his wife, who he desperately hopes is safe.
